American and European Wind Energy Associations Press Release -
The 2002 Global Windpower Conference and Exhibition (July 2001)

The 2002 Global Windpower Conference bringing together all the major players in the wind energy industry was announced yesterday in Cagen. It will be held next spring in Paris, France.

This new world event was made public during the 2001 European Wind Energy Conference being held this week in Cagen. It will be jointly organised by the European Wind Energy Association - EWEA and the American Wind Energy Association - AWEA, in collaboration with wind energy representatives from around the World. The 2002 Global Wind Power Conference and Exhibition will take place in Paris from 2 to 5 April 2002.

Randy Swisher, Executive Director of the AWEA, a special guest in Cagen, said: "The wind industry is now a global industry, and it is time for AWEA, EWEA and all wind associations around the world to be pursuing opportunities for closer collaboration. It is with this perspective that AWEA enthusiastically embraces the Global Windpower Conference said Randy.

Andre Antolini, President of the Syndicat des Energies Renouvelables, the French Renewable Energy Association, welcomed the organisation of this important event in France, which is looking forward to significant future developments in wind power following the adoption of a new fixed price system for Wind Energy support.

This event will be the first of a series and will be followed by the 2nd conference to be held in Chicago, the windy city, in 2004. Both events will discuss major issues of importance for wind markets from around the world, including issues for EU accession, emerging and developing country markets. A city in the developing world-still to be decided -will be the host of the 2006 Global Wind Power event. These events will support the further global development of wind energy.

Wind Energy is the fastest growing energy technology in the World and it is now time to stimulate the same growth with its positive effects on environment to the developing word. "There is much to be gained for the climate change process and for rising living standards in the emerging economies of south East Asia, Africa and Latin America," stated Klaus Rave, President of the EWEA.

This global wind energy collaboration is essential in providing a solution to the threat to people and the environment from global climate change and is a key step forward for countries, which have no set emissions targets such as India and China, where wind, as a clean, indigenous and non-depletable energy source will be key to meeting growing energy demand fuelling development.

Through bringing together the network of international wind energy experts, with expertise in all each and every sector of the wind industry - policy, finance, research and development, and manufacturing and through its links with key international institutions such as UN Organisations and the World Bank Group, the Global Windpower conferences will help bring market oriented and sustainable responses to the different energy markets across the World.
